The e-Way Bill system is imperative for transporters before commencing any movement of goods from one location to another. Here is all you would want to know about creating a quick e-Way Bill!

What is an e-Way Bill?

The e-Way Bill is also referred to as an electronic waybill. As per the GST regulations, it is a necessary document at the time of transporting or shipping goods. It is required for goods worth more than ₹50,000. This paperwork needs to be shown or submitted by the individuals taking care of the conveyance of the goods. Previously, they had to carry a physical copy of this Way Bill when transporting goods. However, it has now been replaced by the e-Way Bill. The former was a physical document that was used at the time of transportation of goods as per the previous VAT system.

What Does the e-Way Bill Contain?

The bill contains essential details about the buyer, merchandiser, consignor, transporter, etc. It also contains a unique e-Way Bill Number called EBN. The same is given by the provider, receiver, and transporter at the time of issuance of the e-Way Bill.

The E-Way Bill has categorised into two parts:

  • Part A contains things like Recipient’s GSTIN, Pin Code, Invoice, goods worth, HSN code, transport document number and reasons for the transport.
  • Part B contains all the details of the transporter.

Before we learn more about the e-Way Bill generation process, we need to first know about the list of documents and credentials needed to get the e-Way Bill. The paperwork needed is mentioned in the list below:

  • It is a must to have an ID card in his or her name or company to generate the e-Way B
  • It is also important to bear all the verified papers such as invoices, bills, challans, etc., about the consignment.
  • A transporter ID is also a must for the person to have for e-Way Bill generation. It is the number of vehicle in which the goods are transported.
  • If the goods are transported in a train, aeroplane, ship, etc., then the transporter ID is needed along with the transport document number, the date on the document, etc.

The Ways of e-Way Bill Generation

The most important part of e-Way Bills is its generation process. There are various ways in which you can generate an e-Way Bill. You can do so by following the below methods:

SMS

If you are comfortable using the SMS facility, then this is the way that may suit you. You can easily register for e-Way Bills through a simple SMS. The concerned government department has led to the creation of the SMS facility.

  • Visit the e-Way Bill portal.
  • Click on ‘Registration’ on the dashboard.
  • Choose ‘For SMS’ from the drop-down.
  • The registered mobile number for the GSTIN gets displayed.
  • Click on ‘Send OTP’.
  • Enter the OTP and click on verify.

Android App

In the world of apps, even e-Way Bill generation can be done by the medium of an app. To generate new Way Bills using the Android app, you will have to first install the app.

  • Choose the ‘for mobile app’ option.
  • The same is mentioned in the registration menu.
  • Choose the user type
  • Punch the phone IMEI number
  • Get a link to download the app on your device through SMS.
  • Click to install the app.
  • Start generating the e-Way B

Online e-Way Bill Portal

There is an online e-Way Bill portal where you can generate quick e-Way Bills. You need to visit the official e-Way Bill portal and follow simple steps. Here is the step-by-step process of the e-Way Bill portal method:

  • Firstly, you need to login into the e-Way Bill
  • Enter the details such as your name, password, and Captcha code.
  • Click on the ‘Generate New’ option. You will find this option in the dashboard ‘e-Way Bill’ section.
  • Enter all the details.
  • Choose ‘Outward’ which is mentioned under ‘Transaction Type’.
  • Select Sender or Inward.
  • Fill in the subtype.
  • Fill in Destination Details.
  • Now, choose the type of document to upload such as an invoice, a bill, a challan, a credit note, a bill of entry, etc.
  • Enter the document or invoice number and document date.
  • Mention your destination as well as your origin name.
  • Mention product details or the consignment including the details like product name, description, Harmonised System of Nomenclature or HSN Code, the quantity of the product, Unit, the value of the taxes, applicable tax rates, the cess tax rate in percentage, etc.
  • Now, the transporter details also need to be provided when it is compulsory to mention the transportation mode, distance travelled, etc. You need to provide a document mentioning the information such as the transporter name, ID, and Doc. n, date, vehicle number, etc.
  • Finally, you can ‘Submit’ the data and papers.

The system will authenticate the entered fields. In case of no errors, you will be able to generate your e-Way bill with a 12-digit unique number. Take its printout and ensure to keep a copy with yourself or with the driver.
