Eid-Ul-Fitr in Pakistan: Mufti Popalzai announces moon sighting and Eid today

PESHAWAR: The Private Route Hilal Committee of Qasim Ali Khan Mosque Peshawar has announced the sighting of the Shawwal moon and has announced celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr on Monday, May 2.

After a meeting of the committee in Qasim Ali Khan Mosque on Sunday evening, Chief of the committee Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai announced the sighting of the moon and said that Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated tomorrow (Monday).

He said that he had received over a dozen verified evidence of moon sightings from different parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, after which he declared Eid-ul-Fitr.

A statement issued by Masjid Qasim Ali Khan said, “The moon of Shawwal has been sighted, so the first Shawwal and Eid-ul-Fitr will be on Monday, May 2, 2022. Happy Eid-ul-Fitr to all of you.”

On the other hand, the Central Route Hilal Committee of Pakistan has announced that the moon was not sighted anywhere in the country.

According to Chairman Maulana Abdul Khabir Azad, the 30th fast will be observed in Pakistan tomorrow and Eid-ul-Fitr will be celebrated on Tuesday, May 3.

It should also be noted here that after the announcement of Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai, three Eids are being celebrated in Pakistan this year. The first Eid was celebrated on Sunday in the Haiderkhel area of North Waziristan. The second Eid will be celebrated on Monday by the followers of Mufti Shahabuddin Popalzai while the rest of Pakistanis will celebrate Eid-ul-Fitr on Tuesday
